RSVP for NABR's Upcoming Webinar: The 2020 USDA Oversight Process
Please join us on April 20th for the second of NABR’s 2021 webinar series, “The 2020 USDA Oversight Process.” Each year NABR obtains information from the USDA’s Animal Care Inspection System database to review the inspection results for the previous fiscal year and provides a review and analysis of that information in the first webinar of the year.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the inspection process, we elected to take a wait-and-see approach to scheduling this webinar. In meantime, we continued our ongoing review process using the Public Search Tool, which was updated in September 2020. In addition to inspection reports going back to 2014, the Public Search Tool includes the number of teachable moments issued during each inspection and the actual documentation has been posted as of January 2020. The Public Search tool website now also contains information on enforcement actions.
While the normal inspection process was disrupted by the restrictions imposed by the pandemic and resumed under a different process, the total number of citations was only down by 26%. The number of critical non-compliant citations actually increased while the number of direct citations remained the same. In addition, we now know how many teachable moments were reported and what they addressed beginning with those issued since January.
In this webinar, we will present our annual review of the inspection data and analysis of the type of non-compliant issues cited and review the teachable moments. In addition, we will provide insight into the inspection process for the first two-quarters of FY2021.
