The Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP) posted a blog post by Steven Wise on May 14, 2020 expressing disappointment in a ruling from the Connecticut Appellate Court regarding their attempts to gain human-equivalent rights for Elephants in a local zoo.

NhRP filed this case against the Commerford Zoo with the intent of having a court grant habeas corpus to the elephants via a third party. The Connecticut Appellate Court has continued to uphold lower court decisions in opposition to NhRP.
