Establishes that a person who illegally causes injury to or the death of a pet is liable to the owner for certain compensatory damages. Compensatory damages are defined as the fair market value of the pet and the cost of veterinary care in the case of the death of a pet. If the pet is injured, but not killed, compensatory damages are defined as the cost of veterinary care provided. Damage awards up to $10,000 are authorized.
“Pet” is defined as a domesticated animal. “Pet” does not include livestock.
